WALKER ART GALLERY
Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool features some of the world's best known artists, with prominent figures from David Hockey to Henri Matisse there is something for all art lovers. It is known for having one of the largest art collections in Britain, aside from London. It's particularly known for it's traditional Renaissance and Tudor period paintings which are displayed in almost all rooms in this gallery. One of the more unexpected collections in the gallery is the Zoo Logic instillation by Mark Leckey. Placed above the staircase is the huge inflatable 'Felix the Cat', Already a bit of an eye sore, the installation looks even more out of place when surrounded by these beautiful traditional paintings. To really appreciate the beauty of Walker gallery you would need days to examine every single painting and sculpture in the building. The sculpture gallery on the ground floor is filled with white marble sculptures, and the room next to it displays craft and design, ranging from ceramics and glass to furniture and musical instrument, with items range from the 17th century right up to the present day, The room i found myself spending the most time in was Room 10 ( Impressionists and Post-Impressionists), featuring work from Monet, Cezanne and Mattise. This said, all fifteen rooms are equally as impressive as the next.
