Henri Matisse's fauvism style paintings are circulated around an intense colour palette and bold brush marks. This style of work has given me a lot of inspiration throughout my project. I have revisited portraiture and figurative pieces this term and I feel the way I paint resembles parts of the fauvism style. I like to use, particularly with oil, thick brush strokes with a lot of colour. Using strong colours is something I have always tried to stay away from but when I returned to figurative painting after my second year I found my use of colour began to leak into my portraits etc. and I have continued since.
