KYLE LAMBERT
Kyle Lambert is a UK visual artist based in the US. He has worked for companies such as Vanity Fair, Apple and Paramount Pictures; as a young artist he has a strong media following, where he regularly posts his work. He creates poster art, concept illustration and digital painting which range from TV shows and movies and celebrity portraits. He often shows the development of his digital paintings, The image below shows the development of one of his most famous paintings, a painting of Morgan Freeman, the video of which racked up over 15 million views.
The finished, hyper realism, portrait isn't what interests me most about Kyle Lambert's work, it's his half finished pieces where the brush strokes are thicker and the colours more block like and thick. This is the way I develop my portrait paintings, applying thick strips of paint and blending them together to make the skin look smoother and more realistic. His unfinished paintings have a different effect, they show more emotion and expression; while his finished pieces are undoubtedly brilliant, i prefer too see rough brush strokes and lines rather than a perfect finished piece. These stages of his paintings are often 'finger paintings' where he hasnt yet used a brush on the screen and initially applies the colour in blocks so he can get an idea of where he wants the dark and light shades to be. His work inspires me to develop my painting skills and explore new things with digital painting.
