VINCE LOW

Malaysian artist Vince Low's artistic skills vary from print and illustration to his 'scribbling style' which he seems most dedicated to. He has multiple series within this style, including his 'face series', 'music legend series' and 'zoological series'. In his face series, he describes the inspiration behind his ideas: 'The faces series is a clear depiction of the various human emotions that we all have, no matter if you are a celebrity or an average Joe. We all have emotions on our Faces.' All of the nine celebrities used in his series depict different facial expressions and angles, like the one above of Leonardo Dicaprio. I love the spontaneous pen marks in his portraits that create a halo/ambience like effect around the celebrity. These thin lines surrounding the face also show how much time has been taken to work up the shading in the face to get such a distinct light and dark comparison. I looked at Vince Low when creating some of my personal project pieces, trying to stop focusing on minor details and let the pen do what it wants. This makes sketching so much more fun and spontaneous, not knowing exactly how the final piece will look like as you can't rub out lines you don't like. His work shows theres no right or wrong in art, just expression,
