GERHARD RICHTER
German artist Gerhard Richter is known for his abstract paintings, like the one pictured above, as well as his photo realistic pieces. The work that interests me is his abstract work, particuarly the ones he used a squeegee to create a blurred finish. In a book by Dietmar Elger he was quoted saying ' I blur things to make everything equally important and equally unimportant. So that they do not look artistic or craftsman-like but technological, smooth and perfect.' Like Richter, I also enjoy how you lose some control of the painting when you use these techniques, rather than using a brush and having a very controlled outcome. I enjoy this artists work and want to try creating pieces with a squeegee to get an affect like the piece above.
