BISCUIT FACTORY
Last week I visited The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle after seeing the Paul Nash exhibition at the Laing Gallery. While I'm not a huge fan of the work being sold there it is interesting to go see the work of more local artists. Surprisingly I loved the work of Stanley Bird; he paints animals and the pieces being exhibited featured deer and dogs. His work is a bit cliche in that it isn't very original, yet for some reason I really enjoyed his paintings. Hazel Mountford is another artist selling work there which interested me. Again, her work is based around animals but focuses more on, in her words, 'the competition for space between humans and animals'. Usually I am not too interested in artwork like this yet for some reason I was drawn to these two artists. While I didn't see much work I would personally take inspiration from, The Biscuit Factory is still a place I try to visit quite frequently to keep up with my local galleries and local art.
